Covers some basic introduction information needed for health promotion practice. Each topic takes approximately 20minutes to complete.

Target

This course is suitable for anyone who would like to focus more on preventative health in their daily work.

Course Outline

This course has 4 topics. Each topic will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.  You can do as many or as few topics that you think would be helpful to you. You will get a certificate for completing each topic. 

 Topic 1: Health Promotion Basics

  1. Understand that the meaning of health is broad and not just about illness

  2. Define health promotion

  3. Give examples of how investing in health promotion can lead to future cost saving

  4. Evaluate the health promotion activities in your workplace and state where they fit on the health care continuum

Topic 2: Health Promotion Frameworks

  1. Identify the key documents for health promotion practice in the NT

  2. Know the key action areas for health promotion from the Ottawa charter

  3. Apply the continuum of health promotion action to a real life health issue

Topic 3: Social Determinants of Health

  1. Explain how the determinants of health can contribute to health inequality

  2.  Give examples of working upstream or downstream in health

  3.  Know the difference between equity and equality

Topic 4: Capacity Building

  1. Understand the term capacity building and know what this might look like in the NT context

  2. Give examples of community development

  3. Have ideas for improving your community engagement practice

If you complete this course and Health Promotion 101 Modules 2-4 you will be invited to attend a 1 day face to face workshop taking your health promotion further.

You are required to do a pre module quiz.

Duration

This module takes approximately an hour and 20 mins to complete.

Completion requirements

We encourage you to look at only the topics or parts of topics that you feel would be helpful for your work.  

To complete this module you are required to complete all four topics in full.
