The aim of this one day training program is to provide Registered Nurse's/Enrolled Nurse's and Midwives with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become effective preceptors.

This course will focus on providing new Preceptors with core knowledge and skills and developing strategies for managing the practical aspects of Preceptorship. 

Target

Graduate Registered Nurses & Graduate Midwives ONLY

 Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss the role and responsibilities of the preceptor and preceptee;
  • Describe reality shock and phases of socialisation;
  • Describe how to establish an effective preceptor partnership.
  • Discuss adult learning principles; learning styles; clinical reasoning
  • Discuss the elements of the communication process
  • Describe styles of communication
  • Discuss the general principles of giving effective feedback
  • Reflect upon current approaches to giving feedback
  • Describe one minute preceptor
  • Reflect on the importance of a mentally healthy workplace

Course Requirements

  • Pre-workshop questionnaires
  • Attendance 100% at a face-to-face workshop
  • Post-workshop readings with quizzes
  • Post-workshop practical activities

How to enrol

NTG Staff 

Internal Staff use the click on the link above for the required date and fill out the online Application to Attend Training.

Non-NTG Users

External users may use the Application form for non-departmental staff.

Cost

For NTG employees, there is no cost.

For Non-NTG Staff, workshop cost is $100 per day. Participants are required to pay Receiver of Territory Monies (RTM) at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) and forward a copy of the receipt and course name and date of course to: CLEaRS.DOH@nt.gov.au
