Overview

This course is designed to assist participants explore a two day upskilling workshop that explores the concept 'caring the mental health way'.

The Upskilling workshops are designed to assist health professionals to explore the basic features of caring for a person with a mental illness.

This two day workshop includes learning the ways of communication, developing interventions and building strategies for people with Borderline Personality Disorders.   

In the near future there will also be 2 day upskilling workshops covering Mental Health First Aid

Learning Outcomes

During this course we will look at the basic concepts to caring for a person with Borderline Personality Disorder. 

Spectrum has conceptualised the core competencies that clinicians require to enable them to effectively work with people with BPD as follows:

 1. Understanding BPD (including symptoms, prevalence, causes and evidence-based treatments)

2. Co-existing disorders in BPD

3. Treatment principles

4. Treatment structure

5. The therapeutic relationship

6. Skills development focus

7. Partnering with families, partners and carers

8. Working with suicidal and non-suicidal self-injury behaviours

9. Clinician self – awareness

10. Focus on recovery.

  • Nursing, Medical, Mental Health Clinicians, Allied Health and or AOD clinicians working in anywhere from general wards to acute care and or community

How to Pass

Attendees must attend the full session to be marked as complete and attended.

Approvals required to attend

1. Your line Manager and HR delegates have approved your attendance at this training in writing/email.
2. You have submitted and had approval from your financial delegate for any costs including travel to associated with this training.
3. You have let the relevant rostering officers know you will be attending this training.
4. Your work unit is aware that they will be charged $250.00 for non-attendance.

Falsely claiming that approval has been granted can result in cancelation of your enrolment and disciplinary action

Self-enrol

Completion Requirements

  • This course has been set up with completion points within the workshop. You will need to work through the features across the days to ensure you have completed the requirements.

Course Instructions

  • During the training you will need to complete a range of activities.  The course completion is dependant on this. 
  • Once the training has been delivered, your attendance will be acquitted by the Course Coordinator, and the system will notify you of your grade.
  • If you have completed the training successfully, you will be required to complete an online evaluation in order to obtain your Certificate of Attendance.
