Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support (BLS) provides content and skills development in the application of the ANZCOR guidelines of Basic Life Support for Adult & Paediatric CPR and the obstructed airway. Attendance at this course is in accordance with NSQHS Standard 8.

Target

All CARHS staff are required to complete BLS annually.

Overview

Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support (BLS) provides content and skills development in the application of the ANZCOR guidelines of Basic Life Support for Adult & Paediatric CPR and the obstructed airway.

Factors that increase survival rates

  • Ensure a safe environment for self, victim and others.
  • Rapid assessment of a collapsed victim.
  • Assess and maintain a patent airway – head tilt/chin lift, jaw thrust.
  • Manage airway obstructions.
  • Deliver rescue breaths - BVM (2 handed).
  • Perform effective chest compressions.
  • Discuss the correct ratio for compressions: rescue breaths.
  • Early defibrillation using an automatic defibrillator.

Completion Requirements

  • Enrol in BLS course and book onto an available face to face session.
  • Fully attend the 60-minute face to face BLS Training.  Ensure that your name is recorded clearly on the attendance register.
  • Your attendance will be recorded by the Clinical Education Support Team within 5-10 business days,
  • Once your attendance has been acquitted, the course will register as complete, and you will gain access to your certificate.
  • Your MyLearning record will automatically be updated.

NOTE: You are not required to attach this certificate as proof in MyLearning.

Use the 'Enrol me' button located at the bottom of this page. If you cannot see the 'Enrol me' button at the bottom of this page, please CLICK HERE and re-check for the 'Enrol me' button at the bottom of this page. Clicking on the 'Enrol me' button will enrol you in the course and take you to the course homepage. Then you will be able to sign-up to a training session.

NTG Staff – login with your NTG LAN details. These are the same details you use to log onto your work computer.

Non-NTG Staff – login with your MyLearning account details or apply for a MyLearning account using the Application form for non-departmental staff.

How to Book a Workshop

  1. To access bookings for face to face, select the "Book a workshop" section of the course.
  2. Find a date and a time that suits you and select the "Sign-up" button on the far right of the screen.
  3. Select the self-authorisation box.
  4. Select AGREE AND SUBMIT.
  5. You will only receive a calendar invite once the course owner approves your application. Be sure to contact the Course Owner to follow up your application if you have not received a calendar invitation. 

NOTE: It is important that your line manager be made aware of your intention to attend this training and that you will be required to attend training for the full hour away from your workspace. It is your responsibility to ensure that arrangements to cover your workload have been made prior to attending the training. 

Costs

NTG participants - no cost.

Non-NTG participants - $50 (a link will be sent to make the payment). Payment is required prior to attending the course.

Cancellation

Staff are required to inform the Clinical Education Team if they are unable to attend the session, so you can be removed from the session, and your place can be reallocated.
