This course has been designed to develop the clinical skills and theoretical knowledge of nursing staff so as to improve the early recognition and management of the deteriorating patients throughout the hospital in accordance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standard 8. The practical elements of this course will provide participants an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a safe and controlled simulated clinical environment. Skilled facilitators will guide participants through a wide array of clinical deterioration scenarios to consolidate the practical application of knowledge developed over the course of the training. |
Target
This course is part of Essential Training and must be completed by all nursing staff.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this module participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate a systematic approach to patient assessment.
- Identify, understand, and interpret altered vital signs and observations, in the context of acute deterioration.
- Formulate a working diagnosis in the context of deterioration and implement timely interventions to prevent further deterioration.
- Utilise appropriate policies and clinical care pathways when providing care.
- To cancel this course participants can withdraw their name from the seminar booking. In addition to this please notify the Clinical Education Team that you will not be attending at least 1 day prior to the face-to-face session.
- Perform a clinical handover using a systematic and structured approach.
Completion Requirements
- Complete the pre-learning module prior to attending the face-to-face workshop.
- Attend the full day face-to-face workshop.
Course Attendance Requirements
- Participants will be required to undertake many practical elements throughout this training.
NOTE: Participants are expected to declare any injuries or restrictions that may prevent them from participating in the physical elements of this course.
- It is recommended that comfortable clothing is worn, and it is essential to have closed-in shoes.
- Participants are expected to provide their own food and water. There is a small fridge and kitchenette which participants are welcome to use throughout the day.

On the Day
Participants are advised to bring the following items on the day of the training:

- A light jacket - the air conditioning is highly variable during the day.
- Lunch or money to purchase lunch at the ASH kiosk. There is a small fridge and kitchenette which participants are welcome to use.
