Welcome to the Central Australian Remote Emergency (CARE) Program. This program consists of multiple interactive online learning modules coupled with a two day practical workshop aimed at consolidating theoretical knowledge through practical experience in a safe and controlled environment. Gives participants the confidence and competence to provide safe and efficient emergency care to patients in the remote and/or isolated setting. 

Target Audience

This course has been designed to support Public and Primary Health Care Practitioners currently working in the Central Australia and Barkly regions of the Northern Territory, or any Health Care Practitioners interested in transitioning to working in this area. 

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program participants will:

  • Develop the confidence and competence in recognising the signs of clinical deterioration and identifying the aetiology of shock among patients with a range of different clinical presentations in the remote and isolated health care context.
  • Gain a familiarity in the consultation and escalation processes used within the remote and rural context when managing clinical emergencies.  
  • Identify and outline the processes surrounding the escalation of care and use the ISBAR model of communication.
  • Identify, discuss and demonstrate the principles of Basic and Advanced Life support.
  • Perform basic blood gas interpretation to assist in determining interventions and the evaluation of interventions whilst managing clinical emergencies.
  • Provide best practice emergency care in the remote and isolated context, which promotes positive health outcomes for all.

Completion Requirements

To complete this course participants are expected to undertake a series of online interactive modules designed to enhance the participants theoretical knowledge PRIOR to attending the practical session where knowledge consolidation occurs. 

These modules include:

  • Introduction to Blood Gas Interpretation 
  • Introduction to ECGs
  • Introduction to Shock and Trauma  
  • Principles of Advanced Life Support 

In addition to completing the online content participants will also be required to attend a 2-day practical workshop focused on providing participants with the opportunity to apply these concepts in a practical simulated clinical setting. Giving them hands on experience in a safe and controlled environment. During the practical workshop you will be required to: 

  • Demonstrate your ability to provide safe and effective Basic Life Support.
  • Identify the context in which Advanced Life Support techniques should be initiated, including a practical application of these techniques.  
  • Actively engage in the simulated scenario-based learning activities.   

There are no practical assessments during this course however it is expected that participants attend the entirety of the 2-day course or they will not meet the requirements of course completion. 

Course Instructions

Once enrolled into this CARE program container, you will need to finalise payment before access will be given to book onto a face-to-face seminar. Please allow five business days for your payment to be processed and for the seminar sessions to open up.

Once the seminar sessions have become available, you can sign-up for a face-to-face session and the online content will become available for you to complete.

If you have not gained access to the seminar bookings and believe you have paid, please contact the Clinical Education Team to identify and troubleshoot the issue.

You will require a computer, with access to the internet and audio capabilities to complete the online modules for this course.

Once enrolled you will gain access to the full course container, you must make a payment and then book in to attend a face-to-face workshop, via the seminar booking system.

Cost

This course charges $200 per participant. It is the individual's responsibility to ensure that payment is made. Once payment has been confirmed you will gain access to the online learning modules to be completed prior to attending the course. 

Cancellation Policy

To cancel this course, you must notify the Clinical Education Team that you will not be attending 5 days prior to the face-to-face session to receive a full refund of the cost of the course. If there are extenuating circumstances whereby the required notice cannot be provided, refunds will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
