Basic Life Support (BLS) provides knowledge and skill to assist you to improve outcome for your cardiac arrest patients/clients according to the 2021 ANZCOR guidelines for Adult BLS & 2016 ANZCOR guidelines for Paediatric BLS and airway obstruction management.

NOTE: This course has no tutorial content

Aim

The purpose of this course container is to

  1. Provide information on how to complete BLS Competency Assessment
  2. Record the evidence of competency assessment through:
      • BLS Competency Assessment undertaken on the workplaces by trained BLS assessors (Clinical Educators, site specific assessors and CLEaRS educators team)
      • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Target

All Nursing, Midwifery, Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners, Registered Undergraduate Students of Nursing/Midwifery (RUSoN/M), Patient Care Attendants/Orderly, Medical Officer, Allied Health Professional and other relevant roles within Top End Regions, NT Health.

Completion Requirements

  • Completion of BLS Online Training prior completing the BLS Competency Assessment component.
  • Completion of BLS Competency Assessment. 
  • Upload evidence of BLS Competency Assessment or RPL
  • Evidence will be reviewed and graded by the CLEaRS team
  • If your evidence of BLS competency assessment is accepted, your essential training record will be automatically be updated

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

To obtain RPL, you need to provide evidence of Prior Learning on

  • Completion of Advanced Life Support (ALS) accredited by Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC)
  • Completion of First Aid Training provided by registered Training Provider in Australia
  • Completion of BLS training by Central Australia and Tennant Creek Regions - NT Health (previously known as CAHS) 

Technical Requirements

The ability to scan and upload the document to a computer. Staff are strongly encouraged to upload the document in PDF form. An image (.jpg) only can be accepted if it provides a clear view of document. Maximum upload capacity is 10MB.
