Implanon NXT® is currently the only Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive (LARC) Implant device available in Australia, and this training package is specifically designed to support the insertion and removal of this device. The training package is a collaboration between the Northern Territory (NT), Department of Health (DOH) and Family Planning Welfare Northern Territory (FPWNT). FPWNT is a registered training organisation and will provide a statement of attainment.

Target

Clinical Staff interested in learning how to insert and/or remove Implanon NXT®

Non-Government Health Services

Non-Government Health services staff may complete the online modules. However, content will be Northern Territory Department of Health and/or NT Health Services centric. Subsequently, you will be required to adjust this to your organisational procedures.

Clinical Staff refers to Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and Aboriginal Health Practitioners (AHP).

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of this online theory training package the medical officer/midwife/nurse or AHP will be eligible to apply to Family Planning to complete the practical component required to be accredited for insertion and removal of Implanon NXT®.

Duration

It should take approximately 1 hour to complete all mandatory activities in this course.

Course Completion

  1. Contraceptive Training Program: Implanon NXT® - Online Theory (Modules 1 - 5 of this course).
  2. Agree understanding of standard Practice points (see "Practice Points Checklist" section of this course).

Achieving Contraceptive Training Program Accreditation

To obtain accreditation in insertion and/or removal of Implanon NXT®, you are required to complete the following four elements:

  1. Contraceptive Training Program: Implanon NXT® - Online Theory (Modules 1 - 5 of this course).
  2. Agree understanding of standard practice points (see "Practice Points Checklist" section of this course).
  3. Simulation of insertion and removal via Zoom (see "What next" section of this course).
  4. Assessment of live insertion and removal (see "What next" section of this course).

Family Planning, the registered training organisation, will issue you with a certificate of attainment via email. 

Once you have received your certificate of attainment, please upload it by clicking on the "Certificate of Attainment Evidence" link in the "What next" section of this course.
