Aim

To gain knowledge and confidence to provide safe, effective Basic Life Support using the D.R.S.A.B.C.D. approach.

Target audience 

Mandatory Training for all NT Health staff (clinical and non-clinical).  

Learning objectives

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • understand the key principles of Basic Life Support and the Chain of Survival
  • recognise when someone needs emergency help and respond safely
  • follow the D.R.S.A.B.C.D. and know what to do at each stage
  • adapt Basic Life Support for special situations
  • apply national guidelines confidently in both hospital and community settings.

Duration and delivery

This self-paced eLearning module will take 30 minutes to complete.

Completion requirements

Completion requirement for this course will include: 

  • BLS (Theory) Module: You must complete all sections including the 'knowledge checks' and interactive activities within the module.

Assessment and grading

Basic Life Support is an ANNUAL Mandatory Training requirement for all staff.

For clinicians and other identified roles your manager may recommended you complete a practical assessment as part of your annual BLS training.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

To obtain RPL, you need to upload evidence of approved training completed within the last 12 months to the MyLearning course - Course: Evidence - BLS Basic Life Support 2026 (NT Wide). Documentation will be checked to ensure your course meets RPL requirements.

Accepted documentation for RPL submissions may include:

  • Advance Life Support (ALS) Certificate
  • First Aid Training (including Basic Life Support) Certificate
  • Basic Life Support Practical Assessment record from previous employer
