Occupational Violence and Aggression (OVA) Minimisation
Aim
This training aims to equip staff with knowledge on how to de-escalate, minimise and respond to Occupational Violence Aggression (OVA), in order to make NT Health safe for staff, contractors, volunteers, patients/clients and visitors.
Occupational Violence and Aggression ( OVA )
Definition: Workplace violence and aggression is when a person is abused, threatened or assaulted at the workplace or while they’re working. It can cause both physical and psychological harm, making it a risk to health and safety.
The term OVA will be used frequently throughout this training course.
Target audience
All NT Health staff.
Learning Objectives
On course completion the learner will have learned:
- Module 1 – Identify: Define OVA, NT Health OVA governance information, understand impacts on self, workplace and client/patient care
- Module 2 – Prepare: Communicating for safety, manage risks, signs of escalation
- Module 3 – Respond: Responding safely to OVA incidents, tools and resources
- Module 4 – Recover & Evaluate: Recovery post OVA incident, incident reporting, evaluation of incidents through quality improvement

There are no pre-requisites for this course.
Duration and delivery
This online training course will take 1 hour to complete.
Technical requirements
Participants are required to utilise an IT device supported by internet access and have general NTG login to access MyLearning and Health Library platform. This course contains audio and interactive visual content. Please ensure you have headphones or speakers, and your device supports the interactive visual content. Course content contains text narration which may not be synchronised.
Completion requirements
To complete this course, participants must:
1. Complete the online interactive learning modules
2. Submit question/quiz answers
3. Obtain a certificate of completion
Assessment and Grading
The course contains four modules which include interactive questions and activities that must be completed before the participant can be graded as complete.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
There is no RPL available for this course.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
This course will provide 1 hour of CPD points.
