Under the Information Act 2002 individuals have a right to apply for access to Northern Territory Government (NTG) information.

This includes personal information which the government holds.

This process is called the Freedom of Information (FOI).

Course Overview

The training is in 3 modules, with the complete course covering:

  • What is Freedom of Information (FOI)?
  • The importance and relevance of FOI in how you keep records and perform your duties.
  • The basic structure, processes and rules around receiving an FOI application.
  • Information on the new centralised FOI unit in Department of Corporate and Digital Development (DCDD).

Target Audience

All Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) employees and contractors.

Learning Outcomes

This eLearning package consists of three eLearning modules:

  • Module 1:  What is Freedom of Information (FOI)?
  • Module 2:  FOI Applications – the legal rules around processing them.
  • Module 3:  Processing FOI applications – how they are processed in practice.

Duration

  • Module 1: 25 minutes
  • Module 2: 25 minutes
  • Module 3: 10 minutes

Completion Requirements

To complete this training, you are required to watch all 3 eLearning modules and obtain a 100% pass mark on each of the respective quizzes.

It is recommended that participants complete the course on a desktop or laptop computer. Please be aware that this course contains audio and a transcript is available.
