Information and Records Management Training Pathway
Information Management Services (IMS) provides a range of training to help you manage records effectively.
To build foundational knowledge in Records Management and TRM (Content Manager), you should complete the training in the following order.
A. Online Training
Begin with the online modules to gain essential background knowledge. The online courses should be completed prior to enrolling into the practical instructor-led training sessions.
- NT Government Records Management
- NT Government Records Security
- TRM Introduction
- Freedom of Information (FOI)
B. In-Person Training (Optional)
Next, attend the instructor-led training sessions to deepen your understanding of the TRM system. These real-time sessions cater for participants who want practical experience using the TRM system, starting with beginner level and advancing to Intermediate. Participants can choose to attend either onsite or virtually (i.e. via Teams). Before attending, you must first complete the online IMS training.

C. Additional Tailored Sessions (Optional)
Once you've completed both core components, consider requesting an optional tailored session. These sessions are designed to address your work areas specific needs.
You can request a customised TRM training session if:
- all attendees have completed the above training
- your requirements differ significantly to the learning outcomes above
- you have 8 or more attendees.
Types of additional training options include:
- information sessions (up to an hour in duration)
- customised instructor led training (over an hour in duration).
The trainer works with the requestor to identify the key learning outcomes and duration to develop a customised training session.
