Aim

This workshop is designed to assist health professionals in their role of wound assessment and management. Participants are encouraged to undertake further research on wound care and best practice to further enhance their knowledge and skills in the clinical practice setting.

Target audience 

Registered Nurses/Midwives, Enrolled Nurses, Health professionals.

Learning objectives

    • Describe the anatomy and function of the skin.
    • Discuss the mechanisms of wound healing and tissue repair.
    • Define wound healing by primary/secondary intention.
    • Discuss and identify several methods of wound debridement.
    • Define terms in relation to types of skin grafts.
    • Manage graft and donor sites effectively.
    • Describe the stages of pressure injury formation.
    • Define methods of pressure injury risk assessment and identify pressure relieving devices.
    • Understand the term wound debridement and methods to achieve the same.

Pre-requisite to face to face attendance

1. Watch all 6 below videos in sequence (approximately 1 hour):

    • Part 1: Wound Assessment (12 mins)
    • Part 2: Wound Products (12 mins).
    • Part 3: Atraumatic Dressings (6 mins).
    • Part 4: Advance Wound Products (12 mins).
    • Part 5: Antimicrobial Dressings (15 mins).
    • Part 6: Overgranulation Management (7 mins).

2. Completion of Pressure Injury Risk Assessment, Prevention and Management version 2 (approximately 1 hour).

    • Please ensure it is completed within 6 months of the face-to-face workshop date.
    • Upload your completion certificate into the Upload evidence section in this course (allow 5 days for grading).
    • Bring current certificate to the face-to-face workshop.

3. Complete the mandatory workbook before face-to-face workshop attendance (sent to participants 2 weeks prior to
face-to-face workshop).

Note: It is mandatory to complete ALL of the above to be able to attend the face-to-face workshop - incomplete participants will be sent back to their work area if not completed.

Pre-requisite requirements and 1-day face-to-face workshop.

Technical requirements

Online modules

  • You may prefer to use a headset to listen to the narration within the eLearning modules.
  • Closed captions are available within the eLearning modules.
  • Viewing the modules on a large monitor/screen is recommended.
  • You can view the modules on a laptop; however, you may experience legibility issues in some areas. Viewing the modules on a tablet or other mobile device is not recommended. 
  • If you are using an NTG device and require technical advice or assistance, please call the NTG Service Desk on 1800 000 254.

Face-to-face training or blended delivery instructions

Dress regulations:

    • Neat and tidy attire. 
    • Closed in shoes.

On the day, you will need to bring the following items to the workshop:

Completion requirements

Step 3. Sign up for a face-to-face workshop. Once signed up, you will receive the Wound workbook two weeks prior to your workshop. Complete the mandatory workbook before face-to-face workshop attendance.

Step 4. Completion of the Wound workbook

    • Upload the completed workbook into the Upload evidence section in this course.
    • Bring it to the face-to-face workshop.

Note: It is mandatory to complete ALL of the above to be able to attend the face-to-face workshop - incomplete participants will be sent back to their work area if not completed.

Step 5. Attend the full day face to face workshop and marked as fully attended.

Please note that this course provides a Certificate of Attendance. To receive your certificate, you are required to complete the steps outlined above and submit the online evaluation. 

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you have completed the Pressure injury Risk Assessment, Prevention and Management version 2 in MyLearning within 6 months of the workshop date you may upload this into the upload evidence tab.

  • Please allow 5 working days for grading.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

9 CPD hours including pre-requisite requirements.

Booking into a session will need to be approved by your delegate/manager and the course coordinator. Your position in the course is not guaranteed until both have approved your application.
