The aim of this program is to provide clinical staff with a basic understanding of the principles surrounding Adult Advanced Life Support (ALS) and to develop the skills and confidence to respond to rapid clinical deterioration and cardiac arrest within the clinical environment.

Overview

The content provided in this course reflects current recommendations made by the Australian and New Zealand Council of Resuscitation.

This course has been designed to provide clinical staff with an introduction to the principles that underpin Adult Advanced Life Support (ALS). From the recognition and management of acute clinical deterioration to the methodical management of cardiac arrest this course provides a broad overview and introduction for participants wanting to build confidence and develop clinical skills.

This course builds theoretical knowledge through the online pre-course work and consolidates and applies this knowledge to a range of different clinical settings through the use of simulation-based training in the face-to-face seminar.

Target audience

CARHS clinical staff who are looking for an introduction to the concepts of Adult Advanced Life support and have not completed ALS training previously.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify and escalate acute clinical deterioration appropriately and anticipate the requirements of clinical management to prevent further deterioration and adverse patient outcomes.
