National Diabetes Nursing Education Framework 

The National Diabetes Nursing Education Framework is a competency framework that aims to guide the development of a skilled workforce, capable of providing a high standard of diabetes care.

The framework and related online learning modules have been developed by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) and funded through the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS).

*NOTE: The training modules below ARE NOT developed, hosted or maintained on MyLearning and will not be linked or reported on your NTG training record.  Enrolment is via NDSS site.

The framework and learning modules whilst designed and targeted for nurses are suitable for all health practitioners and covers all types of diabetes across different ages and stages of life.

Learning modules

A series of 15 learning modules (These are not on MyLearning) support the Framework—helping learners gain the foundation level knowledge identified in part 3 of the framework. 

The Australian Diabetes Educators Association endorses the modules for CPD hours.

  • Oral glucose-lowering medications
  • Injectable diabetes medications

  • Lifestyle factors
  • Pregnancy and diabetes
  • Bariatric-metabolic surgery
  • Diabetes in children and young people
  • Supporting diabetes self-management
  • Diabetes management in hospital
  • Cultural safety.
