Aim

The Falls Prevention and Management course is part of the Required Training which aims to reduce the risk of falls or falls related harm to patients/clients in an acute care setting.

Target Audience 

The training is designed for health professionals and relevant workforce including

  • Clinical staff - Nursing, Midwifery, Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners, Registered Undergraduate Students of Nursing/Midwifery (RUSoN/M), Physiotherapist, and Occupational Therapist.
  • Non-Clinical staff - Patient Care Assistant, Orderly, and Allied Health Assistant/technical staff. 

Learning Objectives

By completing this course, participant will be able to:

  • Identify personal and environmental fall risk factors.
  • Explain the importance of correct use of falls prevention equipment. 
  • Recognise and manage individuals and population groups at risk.   
  • Develop an awareness of the Fall Prevention & Management Guidelines.
  • Gain knowledge of available consumer resources.

Duration and Delivery

The course utilises an Online delivery method. The learning modules duration of the course is one (1) hour.

Technical Requirements

Participant required to utilise an IT device supported by internet access and have general NTG login to access MyLearning. 

Completion Requirements

  • Falls prevention training is a once-only essential requirement. 
  • There are two types of learning modules available: Clinical and Non-Clinical.
  • You only need to complete one (1) module that best reflects your current role. 
  • Participants must complete all activities in the online learning module. Additional falls education should be targeted as needed.
