Aim
The NT has the highest rates of Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in the nation. Completion of the two on-line short courses and attendance at this short face to face course is designed to assist hospital-based clinicians in the provision of quality care to clients with ARF and RHD.
Target audience
Should be attended by all hospital based clinical staff, including Nurses, Midwives and Medical professionals that provide care to clients with ARF and/or RHD.
Learning Objectives
Participants gain an understanding of the:
- NT RHD Control Program and the NT RHD Register
- Causes of ARF / RHD
- Signs and symptoms of ARF and RHD
- Primordial prevention strategies
- Primary prevention strategies
- Secondary prevention strategies
- IMI Bicillin administration technique
- Pain minimisation strategies when administering IMI Bicillin
Pre-requisite
Prior to attending the face-to-face training, you are required to complete two free on-line training courses available via RHD Australia - Introduction to ARF and RHD, and Administering Bicillin.
Completion of these short on-line courses will prepare the participant for the content delivered in the face to face training.

Online modules via RHD Australia and face to face
Online theory pre-requisite - approx. 3 hrs
Face to Face - 1 hour
Technical requirements
Learning modules may contain video / sound / voice-overs. Participants will therefore need to access these modules on a device that has sound enabled. For participants using NTG computers, please contact NTG Service Desk for technical advice or assistance on 1800 000 254 if required.
Face to Face training
Please wear closed shoes, arrive on time, water/tea/coffee available, and bring a pen & notebook
Completion requirements
To complete the ARF/RHD clinical Care workshop :
- Complete Introduction to ARF and RHD and Administering Bicillin modules via the RHD Australia website
- Upload the two online module completion certificates
- Choose and apply for a date to attend the face to face
- Complete online evaluation feedback form
- Download certificate of attendance and save for your records
Assessment and Grading
Please allow 3 business days for your online certificates uploaded to be graded
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Full completion of both the online modules and the face to face will give 4 CDP points towards your professional development
