DETECT stands for Detecting Deterioration, Evaluation, Treatment, Escalation and Communicating in Teams. The program has been developed for multi disciplinary teams (Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health) to confidently identify and manage patients who are showing signs of deterioration.
Target
PLEASE note: Intern's RMO, New Cohort Graduate Nurses, CNEs & Nurses who act as Team Leader will be given priority in enrolment.
Overview
Detect signs of deterioration in patients on the wards
- Know when a Clinical Review or Rapid Response should be activated (PLEASE NOTE: New Rapid Response process coming August 2022)
- Provide simple and timely interventions to reverse deterioration
- Communicate effectively as a team member
- Understand the physiology of the deteriorating patient
- Develop a framework for detection, evaluation and treatment of the deteriorating patient
- Learn to use the ABCDEFG Algorithm in patient assessment
Theory modules (Foundations) will include tutorials, short quiz questions, case studies, and a post theory final quiz.
Practical simulation (Workshop) will include hands-on implementation of theory learnings
Pre-Requisite
In preparation for the course, it is necessary for you to download/access the DETECT Manual after you enrol. The link is provided in DETECT - Foundations "Pre-theory Requirement" tab (you will need to refer to the manual in the final quiz section).

Simulation Workshop

Complete a practical simulation workshop (allow approximately 3 hours to complete Practical)
Complete the practical evaluation online
Print and/or save the certificate of attendance.

Click on the Enrolment Practical Simulation Workshop Tab
Click on the "Click here to Enrol" link
Select and enrol in the appropriate course - Please note you must attend the Practical Simulation Workshop within 6 months of completing the on-line modules.
