The Department of Education and Training leads the Emergency Shelter Group and is responsible for managing emergency shelters. The objective of this training is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Emergency Shelter Group, its role within the Northern Territory Emergency Management Arrangements, and key information you need if called to assist before, during, or after an emergency.
Target Audience
This self-paced eLearning course is suitable for anyone who is working in emergency shelters, in particular for:
- principals
- teachers
- school staff
- corporate staff
Who may be called upon to establish and manage emergency shelters as a Shelter Manager, Deputy Shelter Manager and/or Shelter Crew.

Approximately one hour to complete the online course.
Completion Requirements
To complete this course, you will need to:
- For each module, complete each chapter and quiz. The chapters can be completed by watching and listening to the content on each slide, working through these until you are advised it is the end. To complete the quizzes, you are required to achieve a 100% pass mark.
- Review the resources under the Resources tab.
Once you have completed the course content, you will need to complete and submit the Evaluation form in the Feedback tab before you can print your certificate.
Technical Requirements
It is recommended that participants complete the training on a desktop or laptop computer. There are videos attached to the training that you will be required to view.
It is also recommended to use either a device that has sound enabled or headphones (to not disturb your colleagues). The audios contain text transcripts for participants who cannot (or do not wish to) listen to the sound.
Throughout this training, the terms "modules" and chapters" are used interchangeably to refer to the different sections of the content.
