This is a two-day course that focus on developing advanced skills in managing deteriorating patient and cardiac arrest. 

Target audience 

Appropriate participants include senior doctors and nurses working in critical care areas (e.g. ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, acute admissions units) or in the resuscitation /medical emergency team and paramedics.

Overview

The ALS-2 course teaches the knowledge and skills required to:

    • Recognise, assess and manage the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach (aiming to prevent cardiac arrest)
    • Treat cardiac and/or respiratory arrest, including manual defibrillation.
    • Manage life-threatening arrhythmias.
    • Prepare and plan for post resuscitation care.
    • Care for the deteriorating patient or patient in cardiac and/or respiratory arrest in special circumstances such as asthma, anaphylaxis, and pregnancy.
    • Lead a team, work as a team member, and use structured communication skills including giving an effective handover.
    • Consider end-of-life decision making.

Provider

This course is run by CLEaRS under the licence of Australian Resuscitation Council. This course is nationally and internationally accredited.

Duration and delivery

The total duration of the course is approximately 16 hours. The Mode of delivery is Face-to-face.

Completion requirements

To be successful in the course, the candidate must:

  • be present for the whole duration of the course.
  • complete a pre-course multiple choice question paper.
  • complete all four assessment components i.e., airway management, high-quality CPR and defibrillation, Cardiac Arrest Simulations Testing (CASTest), and Multiple-choice questions (MCQ).

Cost and Payment Process 

For NTG employees, the cost is $510.

For Non-NTG Staff, workshop cost is $950.

Participants are required to pay course fee via Receiver of Territory Monies (RTM) at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH). Alternatively, you can call them on 08 8922 8189 and pay using credit card. You must upload the payment receipt to receive further access to this course including pre-reading.
