This face-to-face workshop equips NT Health employees with practical, contextualised strategies to recognise, prevent, and de-escalate occupational violence and aggression (OVA) in healthcare settings. Through interactive scenarios and evidence-based techniques, participants will develop confidence in managing challenging behaviours while maintaining safety for patients, visitors, and staff.

Aim

To provide NT Health employees with the knowledge and practical skills to minimise occupational violence and aggression and apply effective de-escalation strategies in real-world healthcare environments.

Target audience 

  • All NT Health employees who interact with patients, clients, or visitors
  • Clinical and non-clinical staff in acute, community, and remote settings

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify early warning signs of escalating behaviour
  • Apply evidence-based de-escalation techniques in healthcare contexts
  • Maintain personal and team safety during challenging interactions
  • Understand the effects of OVA on wellbeing.

Face-to-Face training instructions

  • Wear closed-in shoes and comfortable clothing.
  • Bring a pen and notebook.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early for registration.

Completion requirements

Full attendance at any 1-day workshop is required for completion of this training. Please sign-up for the workshop that is most relevant for your location.
