Overview

This one-day workshop facilitates the development of team leading skills and will provide current or potential Team Leaders with the knowledge and skills to assist them in this role through the application of theory and practical activities.

Aim

It is designed to broaden understanding and awareness of the knowledge and skills to be an effective Team Leader. This course focuses on the hospital setting at Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital.

Suitable for new and aspiring nursing team leaders, with a focus on the acute hospital setting.

Applications for this course close one week prior to the course commencement date or sooner if fully booked.

Target audience 

Registered nurses.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this program the participants should be able to:

• Identify key skills and knowledge required by the Team Leader.
• Discuss models of care, clinical handover and other considerations to enable optimal skills mix of staff.
• Describe the appropriate resources that will assist you in the Team Leaders role.
• Demonstrate possible clinical scenarios as a Team Leader.
• Discuss the numerous roles and functions of the various positions that the Team Leader may encounter.

Duration and delivery

One day face-to-face.

Face to Face training 

On the day, you will need to bring the following items to the training:

• Your own lunch.
• Jumper as the room can be quite cool at times.
• Water bottle.
• Pen and notebook.

Tea/Coffee are provided.

Completion requirements

To complete this one-day course, participants must attend training day, in full.

Assessment and Grading

Instruction on how the assessment is undertaken (as relevant)

Instruction on how the course is graded and time frame (allow 5 working days)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

7 CPD.
