Aim
The Immunisation Course for Health Professionals is designed to meet all the essential elements of the National Immunisation Education Framework for Health Professionals and delivers nationally consistent, high quality learning outcomes for health professionals.
Target audience
Priority spaces will be offered in the following order: AHPRA Registered Aboriginal Health Practitioners, NT Health clinicians, Non-NTG clinicians. Each course offers a total of 12 funded positions.
Learning Objectives
Unit 1 - Source immunisation information in primary healthcare
Unit 2 - Examine and apply guidance on administrative processes for immunisation services
Unit 3 - Prepare for immunisation encounter
Unit 4 - Determine and communicate immunisation needs for priority populations
Unit 5 - Source and communicate immunisation legislation in primary healthcare
Unit 6 - Plan and perform immunisation
Pre-requisite
Entrants to the Immunisation Course for Health Professionals will be asked to provide their AHPRA registration number for entry into the course and hold one of the following relevant roles:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners
- Enrolled Nurses
- General Practitioners
- Paramedics
- Pharmacists
- Registered Midwives
- Registered Nurses
Duration and delivery
Students will study and complete six units of learning within the five days of face-to-face study. Both theory and practical components of the course will be offered during the training.
Over the course of five intensive days, participants engage in interactive workshops, supplemented by innovative digital tools and resources. The experience includes:
- Dynamic face-to-face workshop sessions led by experienced instructors
- Hand-on skills activities
- Participants engage in simulated scenarios, role-plays, and skills demonstrations to develop proficiency in key immunisation practices
- Assessment tasks, such as quizzes, case studies, and skills assessments
- Instructors provide constructive feedback and support to guide participants in their learning journey and address any areas for improvement
Note: NTG Staff will need to provide proof of support from their manager/supervisor to attend this 5 day course. Managers will have the option to provide support via email and/or MyLearning approval.
Technical requirements
Participants are required to access the Benchmarque Group's Learning Management System (LMS), accessIQ, to complete the theoretical learning during the course. Computers will be available for participants to use for the five days of the course; however, they are also encouraged to bring their own device (i.e. lap top or tablet with keyboard capability).
Face to Face training or Blended Delivery instructions
Participants will be required to wear neat, tidy casual attire with closed shoes (appropriate footwear is compulsory whilst handling sharps). Lunch, morning/afternoon tea, water/tea/coffee will be provided. We recommend you bring a jumper, pen & notebook. Please notify Benchmarque of any dietary requirements during your registration with accessIQ.
Completion requirements
To achieve the Certificate of Completion, students must demonstrate successfully the following:
- Written questions and quizzes covering essential knowledge and skills
- Simulated scenarios based on vaccine encounters
- Observed workshop skills practice with practical simulations and oral questioning
Assessment and Grading
Students enrolled in this training should adhere to the following principles:
- Display a commitment to learning and to achieving success
- Be responsible and accountable for their own learning, behaviour and decisions
- Actively participate in all workshop activities and learning experiences
- Attend all scheduled sessions and be punctual at all times
- Complete all online assessments and workplace practice activities
- Work in harmony and respect the rights and opinions of staff and other students
- Treat others as they themselves would like to be treated
- Use acceptable language at all times.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
There are no RPL options available for this course.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
This course attracts 35 hours of CPD points/hours.
