The aim of this course is to recertify in ACCCN Adult ALS course, which aims to develop the technical and non-technical skills and knowledge relevant to adult advanced life support.

Overview

The aim of this course is to develop the technical and non-technical skills and knowledge relevant to adult advanced life support.

The content reflects the current Australian New Zealand Council of Resuscitation (ANZCOR) Guidelines and Australian College of Critical Care Nurses (ACCCN) Licencing Agreement.

Course Pre-requisite

  • Attained ACCCN Adult ALS certificate (or recognised equivalent) within 12-months of course.
  • DoH Nursing & Midwifery Staff Unit must have Unit Manager’s Approval.

Target Audience

A course for Health Professionals who care for critically ill adult patients and have advanced life support skills within their scope of practice.

Learning Outcomes

Within scope of practice, the participant will be able to:

  • Apply the principles of early recognition & escalation protocols to manage a deteriorating patient.
  • Demonstrate effective CPR techniques following the ANZCOR BLS algorithm
  • Demonstrate effective technical skills required for Advanced Life Support within the current ANZCOR guideline and algorithm.
  • Identify the priorities of care.
  • Demonstrate effective team management and communications skills.

Completion Requirements

To be marked as completing the training, you are required to attend the training in full (i.e. 100% attendance). Partial attendance does not constitute as full attendance.

  • Pre-course ACCCN MCQ (you do not need to pass this test)
  • Attendance at full day training
  • Passing grade on MCQ test
  • Passing grade on practical assessment
  • Completion of evaluation on the day

Course Instructions

  • Study all course materials prior to attending (ACCCN Adult ALS Manual and pre-course test).
  • Attend day in full, ensuring to be on time.
  • Once the training has been delivered, your attendance will be acquitted by the Course Coordinator, and the system will notify you of your grade.
  • If you have completed the training successfully, you will receive your certificate from ACCCN directly.

ACCCN Login & Pre-Course MCQ

Approximately, four weeks out from the course the Course Coordinator will have a list of confirmed participants (this is confirmed after the enrolment cut-off date). All confirmed participants will be emailed with a link to register for the course on ACCCN. This login will enable you to access and complete the pre quiz on an improved platform and upon completion of the course; you will receive an automated email with a link to your electronic certificate which will also be accessible through your login.

Please note - you do not have to pass the online quiz to attend the course, it is simply to see how you are going with the manual content. You can attempt/re-attempt this multiple times and you do not have to finish in one go. The content will be discussed and there will also be an multiple choice quiz (MCQ) testing ALS knowledge as part of the course

ACCCN ALS courses are accredited for 8 CPD hours per day.

Use the 'Enrol me' button located at the bottom of this page. If you cannot see the 'Enrol me' button at the bottom of this page, please CLICK HERE and re-check for the 'Enrol me' button at the bottom of this page. Clicking on the 'Enrol me' button will enrol you in the course and take you to the course homepage. Then you will be able to sign-up to a training session.

NTG Staff – login with your NTG LAN details. These are the same details you use to log onto your work computer.

Non-NTG Staff – login with your MyLearning account details or apply for a MyLearning account using the Application form for non-departmental staff.

How to book your session

  1. To access bookings for face to face, select the "Book a workshop" section of the course.
  2. Find a date and a time that suits you and select the "Sign-up" button on the far right of the screen.
  3. Check that your manager’s name is correct. If not, select the CHOOSE MANAGER button find the correct manager.
  4. Select REQUEST APPROVAL.
  5. You will only receive a calendar invite once the manager or administrator approves your application. Be sure to contact your Manager or the Course Owner to follow up your application if you have not received a calendar invitation.

How to secure your place in the course

Your enrolment request will be reviewed and dependent upon the following:

  1. Manager Approval.
  2. Confirmation of payment.

Costs

Participants are required to pay $150 to attend or undertake this course. See Payment Process below:

Payment process

  • Under the Payment section, click on the Payment link relevant to the date of the course you have applied to attend.
  • Please allow 2 business days for your course application to be approved. The approval process also involves confirming whether you or your unit will be paying for the course. The next steps regarding payment will then be made available on the course.
  • Once payment has been confirmed (by you or your unit), you will be able to see all content on this course page and your place on the course will be finalised.

Cancellation policy

Participants must contact the Course Coordinator to inform of cancellation/withdrawal.

  • 100% refund: notification of withdrawal 30 days prior to course commencement date; notification of withdrawal supported by a medical certificate, statutory declaration or statement from manager; cancelled by provider.
  • 50% refund notification of withdrawal received between 7-30 days will incur a 50% penalty of course fees.
  • No refund: notification of withdrawal within 7 days of commencement, notification of withdrawal after commencement or no notice of withdrawal will incur a 100% penalty of course fees.
  • Application for refund is through NTG Accounts Payable.

On the Day

Appropriate clothing for performing CPR in a clinical setting along with closed-in shoes must be worn. There is a fridge and microwave available for your use. This is a non-catered course.
